Hope in these faces.
One year ago today a friend who lives in my Metro Kidz neighborhood was shot and killed on Halloween night. He was so young to have his life taken, just like that. A few weeks ago another one of our friends was shot in the same area… Young men who were robbed of chances and opportunities. There are millions like them. As the news headlines become a reality for me I realize the urgency of sharing God’s love with our sweet Metro Kidz. What goes on in their youthful minds when these events take place? I have to wonder this because these killers and these victims were once exactly like our Metro Kidz, growing up in an area of complete brokenness and hopelessness. I know, however, that Jesus will bring healing and jesus will bring brighter futures! When I look at their faces and receive their loving hugs, I am reassured that they were made for so much more.
Jay-Z and Kanye’s song “Murder to Excellence” is so appropriate. We need to be a team, united in love, rebuking the evil that literally kills God’s children. When I hear of more stories like these I am not discouraged because Satan has “won” …but encouraged that Jesus has the final victory! Join me in prayer lifting up the Ashby Park community! Sending lots of love to my Ashby Fam on Rock St!!!

My Dad emailed me this today. Oh how it closely resembles those thoughts that I imagine my parents having!
